User Presentations

A primary purpose of the Northwest GIS User Group is to facilitate the communication and sharing among geospatial professionals in the Pacific Northwest. One tool toward that endeavor are the concurrent user presentations at the annual NWGIS conference. Presentations typically consist of a 20-25 minute talk with a PowerPoint show and 5-10 minutes for audience questions. Topics run the gamut of geospatial topics, from education to technical to topical categories.

Lightning Talks

Don't want to give a full-length presentation? Consider a lightning talk. In just 5 minutes, a lightning talk lets you present some aspect of your work or a concept you are interested in in a short, fast-paced format.

Posters and Applications

The annual map (including story maps) and app contest is a great way to show off your work and to make contacts with attendees who have similar interests. The event will follow a traditional format with participants displaying a map or poster in the gallery for attendees to view and an online approach of allowing folks with web, mobile apps and story maps to show off their work.

Web Maps & Apps submissions will be showcased on the conference website as they are submitted/accepted. We also intend to have a kiosk for Web Map and Story Map viewing during the Vendor Social on Tuesday Oct 30. Participants who wish to show web or mobile applications and story maps are encouraged to bring their own devices to show off their app’s (especially if the app is behind a company firewall but can be shown on a company mobile device or laptop) .

The entrants will be judged by a panel of judges and four awards will be granted:

  • Best Cartography
  • Best Analysis
  • Best App
  • People's Choice - awarded by voting from the conference attendees
