Locations: Spearfish and Rapid City, SD, Glendive, MT, and Williston, ND
Background: This is a seasonal project position (with a potential to turn into a permanent full-time position) to complete a utility service point survey as part of a larger team. The positions will begin in late March 2023 and end in mid-November 2023. Successful candidates will undergo a one-to-two-week training near the assigned project location followed by working independently to collect field data near Spearfish, SD, Rapid City, SD, Glendive, MT, or Williston, ND. Overtime opportunities are available during this project assignment. A company vehicle will be assigned to each employee for use during this project. Company vehicles will be parked/stored at the employee’s location for the duration of the project.
Brief Description: Under direction, works independently to access and perform a visual inspection of gas and electric meters at residential locations. Meter locations are mapped using Global Navigational Satellite Systems (GNSS) equipment connected to a tablet computer running the Esri Field Maps mobile application. Field technicians will initiate contact with homeowners prior to accessing and performing a visual inspection, take photographs, and complete a brief questionnaire to document the location and condition of each meter. Field technicians may be required to perform other related duties as required. Field technicians should be knowledgeable of problems and procedures used in related field and can efficiently and effectively solve various problems. Must have the ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
Examples of work/duties:
- Report to Senior Technician.
- Work in field for 8+ hours per day, outdoors during all weather conditions.
- Utilize company vehicle to travel through the project location during the day.
- Walk or stand for a majority of the workday.
- Will be trained in the proper use of GNSS / GIS technology and equipment.
- Perform work safely and in compliance with all safety procedures and regulations.
- Interact and effectively communicate with the SCE team, client, and residents onsite.
- Shows a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must be able to learn and demonstrate familiarity with utility services and meter conditions.
- Apply knowledge received during training to work assignments.
- Arrives to work every day in a professional manner in both dress and attitude.
- Overtime and/or weekend work may be required.
Requirements (education, licensing, certifications, etc.):
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in GIS or Engineering preferred.
- 0-3 years of related experience.
- Proficiency using a computer Microsoft Office a GPS / GIS technology.
- One or more of the following is preferred, not required:
- Esri ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Dashboards, and ArcGIS Field Map/Collector
- GNSS/GPS equipment
- OSHA 10-hr
